Description

Perhaps their best-known album – certainly the one which introduced the classic eyeball head image – Eskimo saw The Residents explore the myths, legends and music of the native tribes of the northern American coastline and tundra. Released following several years of the group travelling into the Arctic to make field recordings, record with (and learn from) the natives and soak up as much of that atmosphere as they could cram into their suitcases, the album and its mythology (not least the long delay preceding its release) cemented The Residents’ reputation as the weird anonymous band with eyeballs on their heads it was OK to like (long before everybody was doing it).

CD - The classic ambient masterpiece, plus nine unreleased tracks - over an hour of previously unheard music. Formed in the early 1970s, The Residents have been charting a unique path through the musical landscape for over 45 years. From far-out, experimental recordings to highly conceptual, innovative multi-platform projects, the band has refused to stand still, and continues to move in several different directions at once. But you probably already knew that. Produced with The Cryptic Corporation using archival tapes supplied by The Residents themselves, this package explores and expands the classic 1979 album – the record which brought The Residents to a wider, international audience. Including an acapella suite, live in the studio recordings, related unreleased recordings, the Goosebump and ‘Replacement’ projects and live tracks, this is The Residents as we’ve always wanted to hear them.

Bonus material includes unheard 1978 Demo, album acapellas, unreleased tracks and live in the studio material. Remastered, expanded, and pREServed for future generations - this is the latest in a series of archival Residents reissues.

LP - Presented here with an accompanying RDX mix produced by the group using the album’s original multitrack tapes, this 2LP edition both celebrates the original LP and, through an extensive new essay by the group’s mysterious archivist, sheds new light on its production. A must for fans and collectors, and perhaps a first-time opportunity for anybody who’s been waiting over 40 years to finally give it a listen.
