Cherry Red

Cherry Red is a British label that was founded by Iain McNay in 1978. Also known as Cherry Red Records, this label has become associated with the company Music and Media Group. With the label code LC 6730, Cherry Red has made a name for itself in the music industry. It is important to note that this label should not be confused with the US label of the same name.

The Runaways were an American all-female hard rock band that was active from 1975 to 1979. The group, initially consisting of Joan Jett, Michael Steele, and Sandy West, gained assistance from producer Kim Fowley. Over the years, the band experienced several lineup changes with various bass players such as Peggy Foster, Jackie Fox, Vicki Blue, and Laurie McAllister. Lita Ford joined as lead guitarist within the first year of the band's formation after auditioning for bass. Cherie Currie later joined as lead vocalist.

Disagreements among band members arose regarding their musical style. Joan Jett wanted to shift towards punk rock/glam rock while Lita Ford and Sandy West preferred to continue playing hard rock/heavy metal music. Unable to reach a compromise, these differences ultimately led to the band's breakup in April 1979 after their final concert on New Year's Eve in 1978.

In 1984, Kim Fowley assembled a new lineup under The Runaways name which included Gayle Welch, Missy Bonilla, Denise Pryor, and Kathrine Dombrowski. This incarnation released one single called "Heavy Metal Nights" (1984) and one album titled "Young And Fast" (1985) before disbanding shortly after.

Although by this time The Runaways had lost both Cherie Currie and Jackie Fox, it was by no means fatal as the fabulous Joan Jett took over the lead vocals. With snarling vocals from Joan and in your face rock guitar from Lita Ford this was a fantastic album from The Runaways. Tracks such as the jaded Little Sister and the catchy Wait For Me proved there was plenty of life in the girls yet!! Critically acclaimed but never receiving their due, The Runaways were formed in Hollywood in 1975, with the help of music svengali / producer Kim Fowley, becoming the first all female rock and roll band to actually make an impression on the record buying public and musicians alike – although more so now than then! Respected in their day by bands such as Blondie and The Ramones, and now cited as a major influence by bands such as Courtney Love, Bikini Kill, L7, The Donnas and Babes In Toyland The Runaways time has finally come! This is the fourth album in our series of 4 Runaways re-issues and the first official release on CD! 27 years after their debut album The Runaways continue to hold a captive cult following!
