The Sisters of Mercy is a rock band formed in Leeds, UK, in 1980. The band was founded by singer Andrew Eldritch and guitarist Gary Marx, with Eldritch being the only surviving member of the original line-up. Throughout their career, The Sisters of Mercy have been known for their diverse sound on each of their three studio albums. They have been labeled as 'goth', 'keyboards', and 'American rock' by the media. However, they firmly deny any association with goth and consider themselves primarily a rock band.

Influenced by artists such as Leonard Cohen, The Stooges, Suicide, and Motörhead, The Sisters of Mercy became an integral part of the '80s goth music scene. Despite this association, they continue to perform live shows around the world today. Their performances typically include a mix of new songs, re-worked classics from their discography, and covers.
