The Soft Pink Truth (SPT) is a solo music project created by Drew Daniel, one-half of the Baltimore-based experimental electronics duo Matmos. The project was born out of a challenge from UK house producer Matthew Herbert to produce a decent house record. SPT released debut tracks on Herbert's Soundslike label and went on to release albums that featured electronic interpretations of UK punk and American hardcore classics.

After an extended hiatus, The Soft Pink Truth returned in 2014 with the album "Why Do The Heathen Rage?" which included covers of various black metal songs with guest vocals from Antony Hegarty, Terence Hannum, Jenn Wasner, and Owen Gardner. Their most recent album "Why Pay More?" was self-released on Bandcamp under a "name your price" model.

In addition to their own work, The Soft Pink Truth has produced remixes for artists such as Björk, Brooks, Dani Siciliano, Tussle, Sketch Show, Otto von Schirach, Drop The Lime, Eats Tapes, Fischerspooner, Hawnay Troof, Quartet Subtle Telepathe Phiiliip Merimell Kevin Blechdom Roots Manuva Grizzly Bear and Franz Ferdinand.

Thrill Jockey is an American independent record label that was established in 1992 by Bettina Richards, a former A&R representative at Atlantic Records. Originally based in New York City, the label relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1995.

Hot on the heels of the sold-out limited EP Was It Ever Real?, The Soft Pink Truth releases a super catchy, sexy contemporary disco banger Is It Going To Get Any Deeper Than This?, Throughout the ten songs of the album, the provocation to go “deeper” prompts promiscuous moves across the genres of disco, minimalism, ambient, and jazz, sliding onto and off of the dancefloor, sweeping higher and lower on the scale of frequencies, engaging both philosophical texts re-set as pop lyrics and wordless glossolalia. Throughout, Is It Going To Get Any Deeper Than This? aims for a kind of psychedelic poolside take on disco, using the steady 120 bpm rhythmic chassis of the music as a launchpad for reverie rather than big room EDM bluster. Sidestepping retro kitsch but paying homage to highly personal interpretations of disco such as Arthur Russell, Don Ray, Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band, and Mandré, or the jazz-funk of Creed Taylor and CTI Records. Its emphasis on slowly morphing deep house grooves will also appeal to fans of DJ Sprinkles, Moodymann, and Theo Parrish.
