The Sound is a British post-punk band formed in South London in 1979. Led by singer and songwriter Adrian Borland, the band released several critically acclaimed albums throughout the 1980s. Known for their intense and atmospheric sound, The Sound blended elements of punk, new wave, and alternative rock to create a unique musical style. Their lyrics often explored themes of isolation, despair, and social commentary. Despite achieving limited commercial success during their active years, The Sound's influence on later generations of musicians cannot be overstated.

With their distinctive guitar-driven sound and Borland's emotive vocals, The Sound created music that resonated with listeners who were drawn to its raw energy and introspective lyrics. Songs like "Sense of Purpose" and "Winning" showcased the band's ability to craft powerful melodies while addressing universal themes of hope and longing.

Tragically, The Sound disbanded in 1988 after struggling with personal issues within the group. However, their legacy lives on through their dedicated fanbase and the continued admiration from fellow musicians. Today, The Sound remains an influential force in the post-punk genre, leaving behind a body of work that continues to inspire new generations of artists.

Demon is a UK 80s New Wave label that was founded by Elvis Costello, Andrew Lauder, and the company behind the label in 1980. In 1998, the label was acquired by Music Collection International and merged with its Westside Records operation. Today, Demon forms part of the Demon Music Group Ltd.

The Sound were an English post-punk band that formed in South London in 1979. The band was formed by lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Adrian Borland, drummer Mike Dudley, bassist Graham Bailey, and keyboardist Benita “Bi” Marshall. The Sound became known for their introspective lyrics and soaring melodies, and their debut album Jeopardy was highly influential in the post-punk movement. Despite critical acclaim, the band never reached the same commercial heights as their peers and disbanded in 1988 but their music has maintained a cult following and is revered by post-punk and alternative music fans.

Demon Records is proud to present New Way of Life – a new collection featuring The Sound’s ‘lost’ demo recordings, on vinyl for the first time. These recordings capture urgent, high energy versions of tracks from the Statik Records era including Counting The Days, Whirlpool, and Love Is Not A Ghost. Featuring new artwork from acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Nigel Grierson. Grierson previously worked on artwork for The Sound’s Head And Hearts album as part of legendary design duo 23 Envelope with Vaughan Oliver. Previously only available on CD as part of the 2015 Edsel boxset, these demo recordings have been newly remastered for this release by Phil Kinrade at AIR Mastering. Pressed on 140g vinyl, cut by Barry Grint at AIR Mastering.
