Cherry Red

Cherry Red is a British label that was founded by Iain McNay in 1978. Also known as Cherry Red Records, this label has become associated with the company Music and Media Group. With the label code LC 6730, Cherry Red has made a name for itself in the music industry. It is important to note that this label should not be confused with the US label of the same name.

The Undisputed Truth is an American R&B and psychedelic soul group, founded by producer Norman Whitfield. The original members were Joe Harris, Billie Calvin, and Brenda Evans. In 1973, Billie Calvin and Brenda Evans left the group and were replaced by Virginia McDonald ("Vee"), Tyrone Barkley ("Lil Ty"), Tyrone Douglas ("Big Ty"), and Calvin "Doc" Stephenson. The group followed Norman Whitfield to Whitfield Records in 1975 after leaving Motown. Yvonne Stevens (aka Taka Boom) joined the group when Virginia McDonald and Tyrone Douglas left. During the late '70s, the line-up often included musicians from Whitfield's other group, Rose Royce. The last album of the group featured Joe Harris, Marcy Thomas, Melvin Stewart, and Lloyd Williams.

The Undisputed Truth is one of the funkiest Bands of all time. These two albums Method To The Madness and Smokin' are produced by legendary Motown Producer Norman Whitfield who also produced The Temptations and Rose Royce amongst others. The Undisputed Truth was the only band that left Motown with Norman when he set up his label Whitfield Records with Warner Brothers. Method To The Madness and Smokin' were the last two albums released by the band in 1976 and 1979 respectively. Method featured the disco anthems 'You + Me = Love' (rumoured to be the first 12" single ever released and featuring the vocals of Taka Boom, sister of Soul legend Chaka Khan, this track went to number 2 on the US Dance chart and the full 11 minute version is available on this release) and 'Let's Go Down To The Disco' (again the full length version is on this unique release). Method To The Madness was probably the band's most successful album, and a tough act to follow, but Smokin' is a great album and featured classic cuts such as 'Show Time', 'Atomic Funk' and 'Space Machine'.
