Strut

Strut is a British independent label founded by Quinton Scott. From 1999 to 2003, Strut was at the forefront of unearthing forgotten dance music gems, covering a wide range of genres from hard funk and underground disco to Nigerian Afrobeat and old skool hip hop. Their releases not only featured killer dancefloor tracks but also provided a comprehensive context for the music, delving into the stories behind the tunes, the clubs, and the scene of that time. With meticulous attention to detail, Strut's albums were mastered from original tapes whenever possible and included extensive sleeve notes written by respected journalists, rare photographs, and memorabilia.

In January 2008, Strut was reactivated and became part of the *K7 label group. Since then, their releases have been primarily based in Europe unless there is an exclusive retailer in another territory.

This definitive reissue features the original LP remastered and pressed on 180 gram triple vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. Originally released riding a wave of global interest in afrobeat at the turn of the decade, Strut's original Nigeria 70 set broke the mould for African compilations when it first surfaced in September 2001. Digging deep into Nigeria's archives, the collection showcased for the first time the stunning variety of fusions recorded across the country during the '70s, from national icons like Fela Kuti and Sunny Ade to lesser known young bands like Monomono and Ofo the Black Company. Nigeria 70 paved the way for the many fine labels like Soundway and Analog Africa who have since continued to document the detailed story of rare West African music and it has remained heavily in-demand since it was deleted in 2003. It features Fela Ransome Kuti and the Africa 70, Sir Victor Uwaifo and his Melody Maestroes, Monomono, Lijadu Sisters, Afro Cult Foundation, the Funkees, Ofo the Black Company etc.
