African Head Charge
Experimental/tribal percussion act with a heavy dub and 'world' music slant led by percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah. African Head Charge has been active since forming in 1981, with various members throughout the years. Initially, the band served as a platform for Adrian Sherwood's experimental side on the On-U Sound label. However, as time went on, Bonjo's role became more prominent, eventually becoming vocalist and main multi-percussion instrumentalist. They have released several albums and continue to perform live shows worldwide.
African Head Charge's early music was primarily written by Adrian Sherwood but evolved over time to include contributions from other writers such as Skip McDonald of Tackhead. Despite these changes, Bonjo remained a constant feature in the band.
With an ever-changing lineup, African Head Charge remains active to this day and continues to captivate audiences around the world with their unique blend of experimental sounds and tribal rhythms.
