Akron/family

Akron/Family is a folk-influenced experimental rock band that formed in 2002 and is currently based in New York on the Dead Oceans label. The band consists of Miles Seaton, Seth Olinsky, Dana Janssen, and formerly Ryan Vanderhoof. Each member plays multiple instruments and contributes vocals to their shows and recorded material. Known for their improvisation and vocal harmonies during live performances, Akron/Family incorporates field recordings, psychedelic elements, electronic sounds, guitars, and even a glockenspiel into their music.

In addition to their solo debut in 2005, the band has collaborated with master drummer/hero Hamid Drake on an EP called "Meek Warrior" which showcased both traditional folk music and experimental electric guitar tracks. They have also played behind Michael Gira on his Angels of Light project.

While recording their album "Love Is Simple," Vanderhoof left Akron/Family to pursue a spiritual path at a Buddhist Dharma center in the Midwest. Despite this change, Akron/Family continued to create unique music that pushes boundaries within the folk-rock genre.
