Braid

Emo/indie rock band, Braid, was founded in 1993 in Champaign, IL. The original line-up included *Bob Nanna* (vocals/guitar), *Pete Havranek* (guitar), *Jay Ryan* (bass), and *Roy Ewing* (drums). Although only Roy hailed from Champaign, the other members were college students from the Chicago-area. After a few practices, Jay left and was replaced by Todd Bell. Shortly after that, Kate Ruess joined as a second vocalist but departed after two shows and recording one song.

In the summer of 1994, Chris Broach became the lead vocalist. Pete Havranek left due to dissatisfaction with the band's musical direction before they could record their first EP; however, he was still credited on the first pressing. With Pete's departure, Chris took up guitar duties alongside his role as lead singer.

In mid-1999, Braid announced their impending break-up and played their final shows in Champaign, Chicago, and Milwaukee - hometowns of all band members.
