Cass Elliot

Cass Elliot, born on September 19, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA and died on July 29, 1974 in London, England due to a heart attack. She was a US singer best known for her role as part of The Mamas & The Papas. Cass started her musical journey as a member of the folky group The Big 3 in 1963 and later joined The Mugwumps alongside Denny Doherty. In 1965, she became a founding member of The Mamas & The Papas along with John Phillips, Michelle Phillips, and Denny Doherty. Cass played an instrumental role in creating the group's name while watching TV with her bandmates in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In 1970, Cass recorded an album with Dave Mason and during this time she transitioned back to using her original stage name instead of Mama Cass Elliot. She was also the mother of Owen Elliott-Kugell (with Chuck Day) and the older sister of singer Leah Kunkel.
