Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton turned plainspoken storytelling into one of country music’s most recognisable voices. Born in Tennessee, she broke through with songs including Jolene, Coat of Many Colors and 9 to 5, then carried that wit and warmth into film as well as music. Few songwriters have balanced humour, heartbreak and clarity so deftly.
