Igor Stravinsky

Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor. He is considered one of the greatest representatives of musical modernism in the 20th century. Stravinsky's creative journey was dynamic, as he freely adapted historical and personal models to his own creative needs. His works showcased a dynamic and varied rhythmic dimension, with interval elaboration playing a structural role. He used melodic cells that were reassembled and broken down with great variety and freedom, resulting in episodes of rhythmic-metric asymmetry and polyrhythm.

Stravinsky's compositions also featured discordant sections, the use of octotonic scale and modal scales. He wrote music for various instrumental and vocal combinations, ranging from large orchestras to small ensembles or solo instruments. In the 1950s, he began recording his works himself to leave a precise sound testimony of his creative intentions.

A citizen of France since 1934 and the USA since 1945, Igor Stravinsky left an indelible mark on world musical culture through his innovative approach to composition.
