MGMT is an American psychedelic rock band founded by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. They formed at Wesleyan University and originally signed with Cantora Records before joining Columbia Records and Red Ink in 2006. MGMT gained recognition early on, being named "Artist of the Day" by Spin.com and a top ten "Artist to Watch" by Rolling Stone in 2007. Their debut album, Oracular Spectacular, achieved international success, reaching number one on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and being named the best album of 2008 by NME.
In addition to their commercial success, MGMT has received critical acclaim throughout their career. Their first album was ranked as the 18th best album of the decade by Rolling Stone magazine. The band's songs also made waves in Australia's Triple J Hottest 100 2008 countdown, with "Electric Feel" coming in second place. MGMT was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in 2010.
MGMT continued to evolve their sound with subsequent albums, including Congratulations released in 2010 and their third album released in 2013. With their unique blend of psychedelic rock and catchy melodies, MGMT remains a prominent force in the music industry.
