Patti Smith

Patti Smith, born in Chicago in 1946, brought poetry, rock and a fiercely direct presence together in work that helped define the edge between art rock and proto-punk. Horses, Radio Ethiopia and Easter remain key records, while books including Just Kids and M Train show the same sharp, searching voice on the page.
