Art Pepper was an American jazz saxophonist known for his skill on the clarinet and alto-sax. He began playing professionally at a young age, joining Benny Carter's band when he was just 17 years old. After serving in the military during World War II, Pepper became one of the leading alto-saxophonists of the 1950s, particularly associated with the West Coast Jazz scene. His talent and contributions to jazz were recognized when he was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 1982. Born on September 1, 1925 in Gardena, California, Pepper passed away on June 15, 1982 in Los Angeles.

Pepper's music is often compared to other influential artists such as Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Kenny Dorham, Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins and more. His unique style and passion for jazz continue to inspire musicians today.
