Freddie Hubbard was an American jazz trumpeter and bandleader. Born on April 7, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, he became known for his contributions to the bebop, hard bop and post bop styles of jazz from the early 1960s onwards. With his unmistakable and influential tone, Hubbard played a significant role in shaping modern jazz.
Throughout his career, Freddie Hubbard's talent as a trumpeter propelled him to great heights within the jazz community. His passion for music led him to become one of the most respected figures in the genre. 
Tragically, Freddie Hubbard passed away on December 29, 2008 at the age of 70 in Los Angeles, California. Despite his untimely death, his legacy lives on through his groundbreaking contributions to jazz and his lasting impact on future generations of musicians.

Recorded in May 1964 shortly after Hubbard left Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, the quintet—with James Spaulding, Ronnie Mathews, Eddie Khan, and Joe Chambers—moves assuredly from free-form playing and modal jazz to the blues and balladry on this 6-song set of originals by Hubbard and Chambers. This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket
