Errol Osbourne, known as Johnny Osbourne, is a highly acclaimed reggae and dancehall singer from Kingston, Jamaica. Born in 1948 in Jones Town, he rose to fame during the late 1970s and mid-1980s. Osbourne attended the renowned Alpha Boys School in Kingston where he honed his skills in trumpet and chant.
Initially singing with The Wildcats, Osbourne embarked on a solo career after making his first recordings for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One. He released his debut album "Truths and Rights" in 1979, which became one of the standout releases of that era. Throughout his career, he seamlessly transitioned through the dancehall period and continued to release albums well into the 2000s.
With a discography spanning several decades, Johnny Osbourne remains an influential figure in reggae music. His timeless sound has earned him respect among fans worldwide. Johnny Osbourne, one of the few remaining living titans of the golden age of reggae, returns to action with this upcoming album. The record was recorded in France with the French Connexion Band backing him up. They manage to play very much in the style of classic reggae backing bands like the Roots Radics, bringing an extremely authentic old school sound that evokes much of Osbourne's best-known work. A guest appearance by another legend, Lone Ranger, towards the end of the record is the icing on the cake.
