Kevin Robert Morby is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He began his career as the bass guitarist of the folk rock band Woods and later became the frontman of The Babies. In 2013, Morby embarked on a solo career and released his debut album, Harlem River.
Morby's musical journey started with his involvement in the renowned folk rock band Woods. As a member of this group, he showcased his skills as a talented bass guitarist. Later on, he took center stage as the lead vocalist for The Babies, further establishing himself as a versatile artist.
In 2013, Morby decided to pursue a solo path and released his first solo album titled Harlem River. This marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his musical career where he could fully express his unique sound and songwriting abilities.

Sundowner is the new full-length album from Kevin Morby. After relocating from Los Angeles to his hometown of Kansas City, Morby wrote this new collection of songs on a four-track Tascam 424 in a makeshift studio in his backyard shed. The days were spent laying down the new demos and emerging right around sundown. In Morby's words, "around 5:30 in the winter, when the Kansan sunsets look icy and distant, like a pink ember inside of a display case, and 9 o'clock in the summer, when the sunsets are warm and abstract."

Recording was done with producer Brad Cook in Tornillo, Texas, purposefully away from the coasts, in the heart of America. Morby played most of the instruments himself - lead guitar, proper drums (save the drums on “A Night At The Little Los Angeles”), mellotron, and a WWII era collapsible and slightly out-of-tune pump organ - while Cook played bass and some keys and James Krivchenia filled out the percussion near the end of the sessions.

As for the album's content, Morby explains: "Sundowner is my attempt to put the Middle American twilight -- it’s beauty profound, though not always immediate -- into sound. It is a depiction of isolation. Of the past. Of an uncertain future. Of provisions. Of an omen. Of a dead deer. Of an icon. Of a Los Angeles themed hotel in rural Kansas. Of billowing campfires, a mermaid and a highway lined in rabbit fur. It is a depiction of the nervous feeling that comes with the sky’s proud announcement that another day will be soon coming to a close as the pink light recedes and the street lamps and house lights suddenly click on."
