Mastodon is an American heavy metal band based in Atlanta, Georgia. Formed in January 2000, the band consists of members who play guitar, bass, and drums. The band originally included a vocalist who left after recording their first demo.
Known for their unique blend of progressive metal and sludge metal, Mastodon has gained critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase worldwide. With their intricate musicianship and thought-provoking lyrics, they have released several successful albums throughout their career.
Their discography includes acclaimed albums such as "Leviathan," "Crack the Skye," and "Once More 'Round the Sun." Mastodon's live performances are known for their energy and intensity, making them a must-see act for heavy metal enthusiasts.

2009 release from the Atlanta-based Heavy Metal outfit. Mastodon has taken hold of the leadership of the New Wave of Progressive Heavy Metal. Now Crack the Skye, it's fourth original studio album, mines subject matter from czarist Russia and astral travel to out-of-body experiences and Stephen Hawking's theories on wormholes for an unrepentantly heavy aural assault that will shake the heavens.
