The Melvins are a prolific rock/metal band formed in 1983 in Montesano, WA. They have had a rotating cast of more than 10 bass players and have released over 20 studio albums throughout their 40-year career. Their current bassist is Trevor Dunn. The band performs under the name "Melvins Lite" with Trevor Dunn on stand-up bass and under the name "Melvins 1983" with Dale on bass instead of drums.

The core members of the Melvins are Buzz Osborne (guitar/lead vocals) and Dale Crover (drums/vocals). The band was originally based in Montesano, WA before relocating to San Francisco, CA in 1988 and eventually settling in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

The name "Melvins" came from a grocery clerk at the Thriftway in Montesano where Buzz Osborne worked. They chose this name as it was an appropriately ridiculous name that referred to the most hated fellow employee at the store.

Ozma is a rock album by The Melvins. the album was released in 1989 through boner records. with black in on bass and the band relocated to san francisco, the melvins started, in a subtle way, exploring and developing their already-trademark sound further. the genre-dipping and out-of-nowhere efforts of later years were still some distance off, to be sure, but moments like the vocal / drum-only part on oven and the needle-thin feedback treatment punctuating revulsion / we reach show more chances already being taken. tracks 18 to 33 are taken from the 1987 album 'gluey porch treatments' and only appear on the cd version of this album.
