Syd Barrett was a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer, and painter. He played a key role in the development of London's underground music scene during the late 1960s and had a lasting influence on popular music. Unfortunately, he faced mental health issues possibly exacerbated by drug use after achieving success with Pink Floyd. As his behavior became increasingly unpredictable and unreliable as a performer, he left the band in 1968 and pursued a brief solo career before retiring from music. Barrett passed away in 2006 due to complications from diabetes.

Despite his relatively short period of activity, Syd Barrett remains an influential figure in music history. Born on January 6th, 1946 in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, UK, he made significant contributions to the vibrant underground music scene of late 1960s London.

After experiencing success with Pink Floyd but struggling with mental health problems likely influenced by drug use, Barrett's time with the band came to an end in 1968. He embarked on a brief solo career and released albums such as The Madcap Laughs and Barrett before ultimately leaving the industry altogether.

18 track compilation from founding Pink Floyd member entitled&nbsp;An Introduction To Syd Barrett.&nbsp; This collection was originally released in 2010 and most recently only available as an import.&nbsp; It combines early Pink Floyd singles and tracks when Syd led the band as well as songs from his solo projects, five of which have been remixed.&nbsp; David Gilmour, who produced Syd’s two solo albums, also was the exec. producer for this compilation. In addition there is a ‘new’ mix of the Pink Floyd track “Matilda Mother” that is included on this collection.
