The legendary 1994 movie&nbsp;The Shawshank Redemption&nbsp;was written and directed by Frank Darabont, based on a 1982 novella by Stephen King. The movie tells the story of two convicts who, over the course of several years, form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion.

Upon its release,&nbsp;The Shawshank Redemption&nbsp;was nominated for seven Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. By now, the film has become one of the most beloved movies ever made, has held the number one best film spot on IMDb since 2008, and was voted in 2011 by BBC Radio 1 listeners as their favourite movie of all time.
