Thurston Moore is an American guitarist and vocalist, born on 25 July 1958 in Coral Gables, Florida. He co-founded Sonic Youth in 1981 and is best known for his role as the band's guitarist and vocalist. Raised in Bethel, Connecticut, he was taught guitar by Glenn Branca. Thurston Moore married Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon in 1984, but they separated in 2011 and divorced in 2013. Alongside his music career, he also runs the Ecstatic Peace! label.

Thurston Moore is a renowned American guitarist and vocalist who gained fame as a founding member of Sonic Youth. Born on July 25th, 1958 in Coral Gables, Florida and raised in Bethel, Connecticut; he received guitar lessons from the esteemed Glenn Branca. Although based primarily in New York City throughout his music career, Thurston has recently relocated to Stoke Newington, United Kingdom.

In addition to being a prominent musician with Sonic Youth since its establishment in 1981 alongside other talented members such as Kim Gordon (whom he married), Thurston Moore has also ventured into running the Ecstatic Peace! label. This multifaceted artist continues to leave an indelible mark on the music industry through his exceptional talents both as a performer and entrepreneur.

This is Thurston Moore’s seventh solo album, and features musicians Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine) on bass and backing vocals, Jon Leidecker aka ‘Wobbly’ (of Negativland) on electronics, James Sedwards on guitar, and Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, as well as Jem Doulton, alternating on drums. Prior to isolation during the Covid pandemic, Thurston worked in recording studios in North London until the third week of March 2020 to complete this album. ByThe Fire is music in ﬂames. 2020 is our time for radical change and collective awareness and Thurston Moore has written nine songs of enlightenment, released to a world on ﬁre. Taking a cue from Albert Ayler's "music is the healing force of the universe", this recording offers songs as ﬂames of rainbow energy, where the power of love becomes our call. These are love songs in a time where creativity is our dignity, our demonstration against the forces of oppression. By The Fire is a gathering, a party of peace—songs in the heat of the moment. Some of the songs feature all of the musicians whist a few are solo guitar and vocals.
