Hot Tuna

Founding members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen started Hot Tuna as a side project of Jefferson Airplane in 1969. The band initially formed when Grace Slick was recovering from throat node surgery, leaving her unable to perform. Alongside harmonica player Willow Scarlett, they began performing together. Eventually, Paul Kantner and drummer Joey Covington joined for early performances.

In the 1970s, Hot Tuna transitioned into a full-time band with a more rock-oriented style. They welcomed fiddler Papa John Creach and drummer Sammy Piazza for their second LP. Later on, the band transformed into a power trio with Bob Steeler taking over on drums.

With influences ranging from New Riders of the Purple Sage to Stephen Stills, Hot Tuna has carved out their own unique sound within the music industry. Their rich history and evolution make them an essential part of any music collection.
