Lonnie Liston Smith

Lonnie Liston Smith, born on December 28th, 1940 in Richmond, Virginia, is a renowned artist known for his ability to blend atmospheric fusion, soul and funk. Introduced to music at an early age by his father, Lonnie learned various instruments including piano, tuba, trumpet and voice during his high school and college years. After graduating from Baltimore's Morgan State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education, he immersed himself in the world of jazz by working with legends such as Art Blakey and Miles Davis. In 1973, Lonnie formed his own group called *Lonnie Liston Smith and the Cosmic Echoes*. His unique style defies genres and has been a strong influence on acid jazz. Today, he continues to write music and tour.
