Mortiis

An ambient/electronic/industrial rock band from Notodden, Norway, Mortiis was founded in 1992 by Håvard Ellefsen (aka Mortiis). Ellefsen began his musical career as the bass player for Norwegian black metal band Emperor but eventually embarked on a solo career under the name Mortiis. Initially known for synthesizer-based ambient soundtracks, he is often credited as the pioneer of dungeon synth music. In addition to his solo work, Mortiis also had several side projects throughout the mid-1990s.

In 2001, with the release of "The Smell of Rain," Mortiis shifted away from ambient/dungeon synth and delved into more song-oriented territory. This marked a transition into mixing electro and synth-pop elements with heavy guitars while taking on lead vocal duties. While Mortiis has since formed a band, Ellefsen remains the only consistent member.

With their album "The Grudge," Mortiis further explored industrial rock influences. In recent years, they have returned to performing their early dungeon synth material. The current lineup includes Mortiis on vocals, keyboards, and programming; Levi Gawron (Levi Gawrock Trøite) on guitars, bass, and programming; and Tim Van Horn on drums.
