Bill Fay is a UK-based singer, songwriter, and pianist. He began writing music in the early 1960s while studying at university. In 1966, he recorded a demo that caught the attention of ex-Them drummer Terry Noon. With Noon's help, Fay signed a recording contract with Decca Records. Between 1967 and 1971, Decca released a single and two albums by Fay. Despite critical acclaim, these recordings did not sell well, leading to the end of his contract.
In the late 1970s, Fay returned to the studio to record his third album, which was finally released in January 2005 on Durtro/Jnana Records under the name Bill Fay Group. In 2004, Lost Highway Records released a collection of demos recorded between 1966 and 1970 titled "Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow." After over four decades without releasing new material (except for one track in 2000), Bill released a new album of original songs in 2012 called "Life Is People." This was followed by another album in 2015 titled "Who Is The Sender?"
Bill has gained a devoted fan base over the years including country rockers Wilco, songwriter/producer Jim O'Rourke, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and David Tibet of Current93.

Dead Oceans is a US label based in Bloomington, Indiana. Established in 2007 by Ben Swanson, Chris Swanson, Darius Van Arman, and Phil Waldorf, it is closely affiliated with Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar. This label has become the home for renowned artists such as Mitski, Kevin Morby, Phoebe Bridgers, Khruangbin, and Slowdive.
With its roots deeply intertwined with other successful labels like Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar, Dead Oceans has established itself as a prominent force in the music industry since its inception in 2007. Founded by Ben Swanson, Chris Swanson, Darius Van Arman, and Phil Waldorf alongside Austin-based collaborator Phil Waldorf; this label continues to nurture exceptional talent.
The roster of Dead Oceans boasts an impressive lineup of diverse musicians who have gained recognition worldwide. Bill Fay has always sung about attempting to understand the most universal questions: those of nature, spirituality, humanity. His songs are “calming hymns for another chaotic time”, he says. His influence can be traced through many artist’s work, and so it only seemed right to celebrate this with a collection of newer voices interpreting his timeless tracks. Originally released in 2010 by David Tibet (Current 93), Still Some Light was released as a double CD, made up of 70’s album demos (Disc One) and 2009 home recordings (Disc Two). This year, for the first time, this collection of recordings will be pressed to vinyl and released digitally, presented alongside contemporary reimaginings of the tracks by Kevin Morby, Steve Gunn, Julia Jacklin and Mary Lattimore. Bill Fay’s words and melodies remain unaffected by the passing of time and changing trends; and here alongside the original recordings, these reinvented versions still calmly guide us through another moment of chaos. Still Some Light Part 1, collecting Fay’s archival recordings from 1970 and 1971. Many of the songs are intimate sketches which were eventually re-recorded for Fay’s self-titled debut and for his landmark album, Time of the Last Persecution. This double LP set includes heart wrenching versions of some of his timeless works, such as “I Hear You Calling” and “Pictures of Adolf Again”, and features equally powerful songs like “Arnold is a Simple Man” and “Love is the Tune,” which only appear in this collection.
