Formed in 1967 at Charterhouse School in Surrey, England, Genesis is one of the top-selling recording artists of all time. Known for their complex song structures and elaborate instrumentation, the band's early work was defined by the theatrical performances of founder member Peter Gabriel. After Gabriel's departure in 1975, drummer Phil Collins took over lead vocals and the band shifted towards more accessible pop-based music. This change catapulted Genesis to immense popularity throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.

In 1996, Collins left to focus on his solo career, leaving Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks to continue with new vocalist Ray Wilson.
