Rhiannon Giddens, born on 21 February 1977 in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, is a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. She is a talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. With her diverse musical skills and captivating songwriting abilities, Rhiannon has made a significant impact on the music industry.

Having grown up in North Carolina, Rhiannon developed a deep appreciation for traditional American music. Her passion for this genre led her to co-found the renowned group Carolina Chocolate Drops. Through their performances and recordings, they have revived and celebrated African-American string band traditions.

In addition to being an accomplished musician, Rhiannon is also known for her powerful vocals that effortlessly blend folk, blues, gospel, and other genres. Her unique sound resonates with audiences worldwide and has earned her critical acclaim as well as numerous awards.

Nonesuch is a US record label that was created in 1964 as a budget label for classical releases. It eventually expanded to include adventurous music from around the globe and world-premiere recordings of contemporary composers. Nonesuch has gone through various ownership changes over the years, including being acquired by Warner Communications in 1970 and becoming a sub-label of Warner Bros. Records in 2004.

Under the leadership of Jac Holzman, Nonesuch was established as a budget label for classical releases licensed from large record companies in Britain and France. Designed by Bill Harvey, the packaging emphasized affordability with releases marketed as "Recordings at the Price of a Quality Paperback."

In 1970, Nonesuch became part of Warner Communications (Kinney/WEA) and continued to release music under its own name along with other Elektra-based labels like Elektra and Asylum Records. The merger between Elektra and Atlantic labels in 2004 resulted in Nonesuch becoming a sub-label of Warner Bros. Records within the Warner Music Group.

This collection of 12 songs written over the course of Giddens’ career bursts with life-affirming energy, drawing from the folk music that she knows so deeply, as well as its pop descendants. The album was produced by Jack Splash (Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Alicia Keys, Valerie June, Tank and the Bangas) and recorded at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami with a band composed of Giddens’s closest musical collaborators from the past decade alongside musicians from Splash’s own Rolodex, topped off with a horn section, making an impressive ten to twelve-person ensemble.
