Peaceville is an English label founded by Paul Halmshaw, also known as Hammy, in 1987. The label primarily focuses on metal music and has gained a reputation for its high-quality releases. In 2000, Peaceville was sold to Snapper Music but continues to thrive under their ownership.

Throughout its history, Peaceville has used various catalog number formats to distinguish different types of releases. From 1987 to 1995, the label used "VILE ### T" for 12-inch singles, maxis, and EPs; "VILE ###" for LPs; and "VILE ### P" for picture LPs. From 1987 to 2002, CD releases were labeled as "CDVILE### / VILE ### CD," while MCDs/singles/EPs were labeled as "CDMVILE### / VILE ### TCD." Limited CDs were marked with "CDXVILE###."

In later years, Peaceville introduced new catalog number formats such as "CC#" for the Collectors Club series of 7-inch records in 1993-1994. Greek band formed in 1987 by singer and guitarist Sakis Tolis (Necromayhem), his brother Themis Tolis (Necrosauron) on drums and Jim Patsouris (Mutilator) on bass. At first, the trio played a roaring mixture of Death Metal and Grind. Only one year later the band recorded their first split 7″ EP with Grindcore act SOUND POLLUTION. In 1989 their first official demo was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world. This notorious five-track under the name “Satanas Tedeum” witnessed Rotting Christ turning towards an incredibly dark and violent Black Metal sound.

In 1991 Rotting Christ had scored a local record deal and released their famous “Passage to Arcturo”. The EP featured NECROMANTIA’s Magus Wampyr Daoloth (as Morbid) on keyboards. Changing to an international label, Rotting Christ saw their debut album “Thy Mighty Contract” appearing in 1993. This classic work defined the so-called “Greek sound of Black Metal” and gained them worldwide attention.

THE 1993 DEBUT FULL LENGTH ALBUM FROM THE CELEBRATED GREEK BLACK METAL LEGENDS Greek black metal legends Rotting Christ formed in 1988, with their early demo recordings containing strong grindcore elements as the band quickly evolved their style into something altogether darker. Spearheaded by brothers Sakis & Themis Tolis, Rotting Christ have remained one of the strongest and most respected forces in the black metal scene since their debut release 'Passage of Arcturo'. Their legacy towards greatness was cemented even further by the genre classic follow-up 'Thy Mighty Contract', helping to firmly establish the Greek scene as being among the most essential black metal movements of the early 90's. 'Thy Mighty Contract' was originally released in 1993 and featured a brutal, yet also melodic and atmospheric approach, incorporating different elements of extreme metal mixed with haunting keys & dark/occult themes. With a clear distinction between their sound and what was appearing in Scandinavia at the time, Rotting Christ were highly influential & revered for forging their own sound while retaining the rawness of the old-school masters such as Celtic Frost and Venom.
