Description
Funeral is a very diverse album. Ghost Bath has been labelled as depressive black metal but this album’s nuances make the bands genre more complicated than just that.
There are multiple transitions between clean and distorted guitars within tracks. The clean guitars have an airy post-punk feel to them. The chords and strumming patterns are both uplifting and optimistic, complimenting the darker sound of the album. The distorted guitars vary from heavy and dark to radiant and post-metal chord progressions. The drums are equally versatile, switching between blast beats and an upbeat, almost poppy sound. The vocals are the most closely linked to the traditional side of black metal. The high pitched shrieks akin to Austere or Thy Light are layered well into the mix and add to the unique instrumentation.
