Born on August 27, 1941 in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde, she earned the nickname "barefoot diva" for her captivating performances performed without shoes. Cesaria Evora was renowned as the best-known performer of Morna and predominantly sang in Cape Verdean Creole, occasionally incorporating Portuguese into her songs.
