Music for Nations

Music for Nations is a UK metal label that was founded in February 1983 by Martin Hooker, former boss of Heavy Metal Records. Known for their iconic beige label with a small red Music For Nations flag logo, the label quickly became a prominent force in the metal music scene. They relocated to Carnaby Street in London in November 1985 and continued to release new music and re-issues with their distinctive red and yellow label from 1986 onwards.

Their address changed to "102 Belsize Lane" until early 1994, after which it moved to "333 Latimer Road," both located in London. This information helps identify correct CD releases/reissues/represses for the MFN catalogue. In February 1994, they released CDMFN 157 (Belsize Lane) followed by CDMFN 158 (Latimer Road). It's important to note that products showing the latest address cannot be pressed before 1994.

In 2004, Music for Nations officially closed its doors and its catalog was folded into Zomba, which was owned by Sony BMG. However, the label made a triumphant return in 2015, bringing back their passion for metal music and continuing to support talented artists within the genre. With an authoritative history and an unwavering commitment to metal music, Music for Nations remains a beloved name among fans worldwide.

Metal band Paradise Lost, formed in 1988 in Halifax, UK, is credited with creating the death/doom subgenre and pioneering gothic metal. Throughout their career, they have reinvented themselves and experimented with different musical genres. Their early albums established them as a leading force in death/doom, but they gradually moved towards a more melancholic goth-influenced sound. They then explored mainstream success while still maintaining their metal roots before venturing into non-metal territory. In recent years, the band has returned to their gothic and heavy metal roots.

Paradise Lost's unique sound has influenced similar artists such as Tiamat, Moonspell, and Lake Of Tears. Other notable bands within the same genre include My Dying Bride, Katatonia, and Anathema.

With their perpetual taste for reinvention and refusal to repeat themselves, Paradise Lost continues to captivate fans and critics alike with their exploration of gothic and heavy metal territories.

Hailed as ‘The European Metallica’, the 1995 masterpiece solidified the British band’s position at the top table of British metal. With some success already in the bag, the band’s rising status allowed them to deliver their most accomplished sound to date, and a collection of songs that are magnificently heavy, but with a cool, gothic sheen. It remains Paradise Lost’s most acclaimed and adored body of work, and era of the band.

The CD also sees the band open their vaults and provide a version that comes with an extra disc of bonus and rare, unreleased material from the Draconian Times era. The 25th Anniversary edition features the re-mastered mix of 2011’s Legacy CD. It also comes furnished with new liner notes from journalist and long standing fan Nick Ruskell, a never seen before deep dive into the record’s lyrics and themes from vocalist Nick Holmes, and memories from the band.
