Witch is Zambia's best-known rock ensemble, whose driving rhythms were as influenced by James Brown's funk as Jimi Hendrix's rock. Theirs is the music that came from the scene referred to as Zamrock. 'Kuomboka' and 'Movin' On', reissued as a 2CD set for the first time, reflects a period in Zambian music's history when it came to be influenced by disco and rhumba from neighboring Congo in the 1980s. Witch splintered and a skeleton crew of core members with some younger musicians recorded and privately issued two albums that found the band replacing fuzz guitars with whirling synthesizers and trying their hand at soul, disco and boogie. Zambian music researcher Leonard Koloko calls these later Witch albums 'of international standard and genius'. Though but a decade separated the first and last Witch albums, the recording capabilities of most nations in sub-Saharan Africa by 1984 had caught up with the rest of the world.
