Kate Bush
Kate Bush arrived with a debut single most artists would build a whole career around. Wuthering Heights, released when she was still a teenager, went to number one and immediately marked her out as a writer and performer working to her own logic.
Born in Bexleyheath in 1958, Bush was signed to EMI at 16 after David Gilmour helped her record a demo. The run from The Kick Inside through Never For Ever, The Dreaming and Hounds of Love shows just how far she could stretch pop form without losing its pull. After The Red Shoes in 1993, she stepped back for more than a decade, returning with Aerial in 2005, then later Director’s Cut and 50 Words for Snow. Her catalogue remains singular: theatrical, exacting and unmistakably her own.
